This article is written for the benefit of those who are working on their dissertation (thesis) papers. In fact, there are a few dissertation (thesis) papers only that may not be referred to the works by the other researchers or where you will not have to talk about already existing problems. The reasons for referring are different. They refer to the most usable work that may be regarded as the basis of own dissertation. It is used rather frequently for analysis or even to show the others shortcomings of someone’s work and present the connection between own dissertation (thesis) paper and the others. Such references are mostly connected with peculiarities of text passages, the examples of this are documents and books.

One more kind of references concerns ideas and concepts that were created or discovered by the other people.

I am not going to suggest you avoiding references but vice versa, I recommend you referring each idea to a certain dissertation (thesis) paper or a source.
Moreover, it is very important to format such references properly.

Thus, while formatting quotations, you should keep to the following issues:

Always format quotations in accordance with the requirements. Do not plagiarize!

References to inventions, discovering, algorithms, etc. are referred to their creators;

Use one of the required ways of quotation formatting (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.)

Quotations are very important proofs for supporting your point of view on the problem you are considering. That is why you should not avoid them but format them in appropriate way.
